It’s going to be pretty good.

It’s roughly about how and why I like to get into legal trouble doing my comedy, as well as some nice stories about my family.
It’s satirical, it’s cheeky, it’s heartwarming, it’s inspirational, and it’s mostly funny.

So I wrote the funniest script I thought I could muster on our tiny $10k budget. Then convinced Dick that it’d be fine to run with the innuendo and the boat people joke. (Which is my favourite considering Dick’s stance on population control)

So we shot it in two days, and after another four days in post … we thought it was pretty funny. There was one group that didn’t think it was funny. The CAD approval people.

Dick had booked over $100k in media spots for the 6pm bulletins on Australia Day which required ads to have a G rating. The lowest rating that CAD would muster was a PG rating.

When I told Dick this yesterday, he was overseas on a business trip. He was furious, incredibly upset.

He refused to talk to me over the phone so he just sent me a barrage of angry texts.

Dick decided to cut his China trip short and is heading back to Australia to sort it out.

In the mean time I’ve put up the Uncensored version on YouTube.

So when I can, I try to whore myself out as a writer/director for people with money who want to try and sell you stuff.

I really enjoy directing comedy, and because I’m a performer first and foremost I’m able work with actors on another level to get the best performances out of them.

However lately he seems to be losing that golden touch. Traditional media in all forms is becoming flatter, and broadcasting is becoming narrower. I secretly love The Parrot, I think he’s a terrific, strange and repugnant character who claims to be the voice of the battler. He’s one man who is very much in touch with everyday people, he sees them out the window of his chauffeur driven merc , swiftly walks past them on the way to his private lift at his office, peers down at them with binoculars from his penthouse apartment above Sydney’s toaster. I’m sure he even hears stories about battlers from David his butler.

That’s why I love Alan, he’s a guy that’s missing something from his life, so he fills it with the fantastic (and fabulous) Here are several impressions I’ve done of Alan Jones over the years… from the latest to the very first. He’s beautiful character.

This top ten list shows how the digital devide between old and young exists and is growing. The networks that the stars of youtube and twitter have developed digtally are just as powerful to a global digital audience as traditional media audience in Australia.

Cody Simpson, a 15 year old singer songwriter from the Gold Coast heads up the list, his fame and influence is due in most part to the growth of his YouTube channel.

A couple of comedians from the sketch comedy group The Janoskians are also high up the list. The muckraking teenagers pull pranks in the shopping centres and streets of melbourne and generally causing trouble. They are shambolic and wonderful. The kind of smartarses you wanna be friends with at school, but wouldn’t want to cross.

Another intersting person is Melbourne schoolgirl Jasmine Curtis Smith. While in Melbourne she’s just another girl. In the philipines she’s a massive TV star.

“Sydney 2030″ was a film that I directed for the City Of Sydney and FBi Radio, it was shot in 2007. The film features broadcasters from FBi Radio as well as Sydney musicians talking optimistically about the changes they’d like to see in their home town.

But what’s interesting to note, is that most of these people have now departed from Sydney to seek opportunity elsewhere.

Michaella Solar March: Mic is now living in Brooklyn New York city working for an indie record label, she’s just got engaged is probably not moving back to Australia soon.

Peach: James has moved to Newcastle to practice law, he’s married and now has kids. From what I gather, he’s Mr. Family man cum gun litigator in the Coal City.

Fiona Poole: Fi now lives on an organic farm with her kids and hubby on the NSW mid north coast, and presents breakfast on ABC local radio. She’s one of the best broadcasters I’ve ever had the pleasure of working with.

Anna Lunoe: This week is the last week that you can catch Lunoe in Australia. After hustling around the country as part of the awesome DJ troupe Hoops, Lunoe is packing up the decks and the design business and fleeing to the USA where being a megababe DJ is a lot more lucrative.

Dappled Cities (back then Dappled Cities Fly) and Bluejuice: In 2006 these guys were fledgling rock stars, now they are fully fledged rock stars in their own right, ARIA nominated, Hottest 100 charting, internationally touring. But what’s interesting is the third character in the film, the location where the boys are talking about live music. The setting of course is the now derelict Hopetoun Hotel, a former cultural beacon of indie music.

And then there’s me, straight after I delivered this film I moved to Melbourne for 3 years to continue chasing a fledging media/comedy career. Having moved back to Sydney in 2010 for Hungry Beast, I looked around and took note that Sydney is really changing although slowly.

Now in 2012 its villages are becoming more connected through bike lane infrastructure, its food and bar culture is breeding fast and its arts and comedy scene is growing strong. I’m really proud to be back in this town, and excited to participate in the changes that are making it a more progressive, cultural hub. The exciting thing is that finally Sydney is slowly turning into a place to attract good creative people back to it, rather than scare them away.

In the words of Sparkadia, there is still so much to do.
